What has happened so far in the Copa America?
The initial phase of the 48th Copa America ended last Monday with two Group D matches. In the first game, Colombia defeated Paraguay 2-1, thanks to goals from Daniel Muñoz and Jefferson Lerma.
Costa Rica achieved a historic draw against Brazil during an exciting match at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, ending the game 0-0. Coached by Argentine Gustavo Alfaro, Costa Rica’s team eliminated any goal-scoring chances from the opposing team with their solid defense.
Other teams that have won or drawn so far in the 2024 Copa America include Peru vs. Chile from Group A, which ended 0-0. In Group B, Venezuela debuted with a well-deserved 2-1 victory over Ecuador. Venezuela only needed to defeat Mexico last Wednesday to secure a spot in the quarterfinals, and they achieved it with a 1-0 victory. Previously, Mexico had defeated Ecuador 3-2 and won against Jamaica with a goal from Gerardo Arteaga.
In Group C, Uruguay and the United States are leading after defeating Panama 3-1 and Bolivia 2-0, respectively.
Finally, Colombia leads Group D after their 2-1 victory over Paraguay, further aided by Brazil’s draw with Costa Rica, which secured their top position.
What is the Copa America?
